Aging-in-Place Bathroom Remodeling in Albany & the Capital Region

Plan a bathroom that is easier to enter, use, and maintain without making it look institutional. Moore Done Right designs elegant aging-in-place bathrooms and showers around the homeowner, the existing room, and the way the space is used—not a one-size-fits-all package. Options can include low-threshold entry, securely backed grab bars, INVISIA shelf-and-grab-bar combinations, seating, handheld controls, useful storage, and easy-clean surfaces. Where the room and structure allow, we can also design zero-barrier or curbless showers; drainage, waterproofing, floor height, and entry clearances must be measured before that option is promised.

Elegant Support & Storage

Support can look like part of a high-end shower. MDR installs traditional grab bars plus HealthCraft INVISIA Shampoo Shelf + Grab Bar and Corner Shelf + Grab Bar options that combine secure support with useful storage and refined finishes. The grab-bar component—not the removable shelf tray—is the support, and installation depends on verified framing or added wood blocking and the manufacturer’s instructions.

1. Traditional or shelf-integrated support options
2. Secure installation into framing or proper blocking
3. Finishes selected to complement the shower

Seats & Benches

Add a fold-down seat or built-in bench so you can sit while bathing, shaving, or simply relaxing. The seat type, height and position should suit the person using the shower, the available space and the selected product's support requirements.

1. Fold-down or fixed bench options
2. Non-slip surfaces & rounded edges
3. Ideal for aging-in-place upgrades

Handheld Showers & Controls

Handheld showerheads and slide bars make it easier to bathe while seated and rinse hard-to-reach areas. We place controls so you can turn on the water without stepping into the spray.

1. Ergonomic handheld sprayers & slide bars
2. Lever handles & pressure-balanced valves
3. Ideal for multi-generational households

Safety & Accessibility FAQs

Many existing bathrooms can receive a grab-bar upgrade without a full remodel. We first assess the wall, the person’s reach and the intended support position, then determine whether suitable framing or blocking is available and what installation method the selected product requires.

Some locations need additional wall access or preparation. The proposed work and any affected finishes should be agreed before drilling; a bar should not be promised for every position simply because it looks convenient.

Installing a grab bar or wall-mounted accessory normally requires carefully placed holes. We check the existing wall material, backing and selected product instructions, then explain the fastening and sealing details and any finish work needed.

The condition of an existing wall or waterproofing assembly must be assessed. An accessory installation should not be treated as a guarantee that an older shower is otherwise watertight.

Not always. A properly planned grab bar, handheld shower or suitable seat may address the immediate difficulty while keeping a sound bathing area. We review the room and the person’s needs before deciding which changes are practical.

If you later replace the shower, any existing accessory must be reassessed for condition, placement and compatibility with the new design. Reuse may be possible, but it is not assumed or promised in advance.

Moore Done Right serves homeowners throughout the Capital Region of New York, including Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and nearby communities.

Yes. Traditional bars and products such as the HealthCraft INVISIA Shampoo Shelf + Grab Bar can coordinate support, storage and fixture finishes. The grab-bar component provides support; a shelf tray, towel bar or ordinary accessory should not be assumed to do the same job. Placement and fastening must follow the selected product's instructions and verified framing or blocking. The real Selkirk project above shows one finished combination.

Consider who will use the seat, entry and transfer space, reach to the handheld shower, and room for someone who prefers to stand. A fold-down seat can free floor space when folded; a fixed bench occupies space throughout use. We review the measured layout and the selected product's installation and support requirements before including either option in the written scope.

Plan controls around the person's reach from the intended standing or seated position. Discuss turning on the water, adjusting temperature, reaching the handheld spray and storing it without stretching across the shower. Existing plumbing and the chosen system affect feasible placement, so these decisions belong in the measured design rather than being left until installation.

No. A low-threshold shower still has a raised entry, while a curbless design aims for an even transition from the bathroom floor. A flush entry needs compatible floor heights, drainage, slope and waterproofing, and it can affect work outside the shower. Moore Done Right reviews the existing construction and measured layout before recommending an entry design.

If you are replacing the shower, discuss future grab bars or wall-mounted seating while the walls are open. Suitable backing can be planned around the intended products and positions and included in the written scope. Keep the product and installation records. Any later accessory must still suit the prepared locations and its manufacturer’s fastening instructions.
